Regardless of party affiliation, all voters may vote in the August 23rd Primary Election. However, Florida is a Closed Primary State.  This means that only registered Democrats may vote for Democratic candidates and only registered Republicans may vote for Republican candidates.  Registered voters with no party affiliation or with minor party affiliation are eligible to vote in Non-Partisan and Universal Primary contests.

Polk County residents who are not registered to vote, but would like to participate in the August 23rd Primary Election, have until July 25th to submit their completed voter registration form to the Elections Headquarters in Bartow or at our Operations Center in Winter Haven. You may click here to make any changes to your record for the August 23rd Election.

Universal Primary:

If all candidates in a primary race have the same party affiliation and the winner will have no opposition in the General Election, all qualified electors, regardless of party affiliation may vote in the Primary Election for that office.

Voter registration forms may be downloaded here and mailed to the Elections Office at: Supervisor of Elections, P.O. Box 1460, Bartow FL, 33831.  You can click on the registration Form Locations link to find a location with forms near you. Registered voters are reminded to update the Elections Office of any name or address change prior to Election Day.

3 EASY WAYS TO VOTE:

  • Vote by Mail: 
    To request a mail ballot (click here). Last day to request a mail ballot for the primary election is August 13th. 
  • Vote at Your Precinct: (click here to check your polling location)
    Polls are open 7am to 7pm on Election Day.
  • Vote Early In-Person:
    Vote at one of our 9 convenient locations August 13th - 20th
